Summary

The group of Prof. Echavarren focuses on the invention of new synthetic methods and on the development of original solutions based on the group’s own methodology for the total synthesis of natural and non-natural products. The most important scientific contributions of the group have been in the field of homogenous gold catalysis, where they have established the mechanistic foundations that have guided the discovery of new transformations and have introduced gold catalysts to the scientific community. They have also demonstrated the usefulness of new synthetic methods in the context of the synthesis of complex molecules, both biologically relevant natural products and molecules of interest in materials science.
