Polyesters from renewable sources
POLIMON: Polyesters from renewable sources, reference 2018 LLAV 00078 granted by the AGAUR, started on May 1. The objectives of the project are the preparation of a family of polyesters derived from cyclic halides and cyclic anhydride of organic diacides to evaluate their membrane and fiber formation properties, and their biodegradability, biocompatibility and toxicity, in order to obtain new materials suitable for packaging and /or textile industry.
The technology is based on a polymerization reaction discovered in the laboratory of Prof. Arjan Kleij, who is the project’s IP, and will be carried out in the CSOL laboratory. The research team is also composed by Dr. Morgane Gaydou (Scientific-Entrepreneur), Dr. Fernando Bravo (Manager of CSOL), and Dr. Jeroen Rintjema (Post-doctoral Researcher from CSOL) and Prof. Carlos E. Alemán of the UPC for the evaluation of the processability, biocompatibility and biodegradability of the obtained polymers. The project has the industrial advice of Dr. Julen Mendizábal (Henkel).
This project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the European Union under the FEDER Operational Program of Catalonia 2014-2020. The project also has the financial support of the Secretaria d’Universitats i Recerca del Departament d’Empresa i Coneixement de la Generalitat de Catalunya“
